Many companies use project portfolios as a mean of managing projects. However not all projects fit in the scope of the portfolio, a choice should be made based on predetermined criteria. The projects in the portfolio should be executed in the order of value, taking into account what is practical with the available resources. Project Portfolio Management is critical to the successful resolution of this project portfolio. Successful companies have a structured process for PPM, many use more than one method and use measuring criteria that follow from the company strategy.
