Finally, after two years of "blood, sweat and tears" a new shift of DACE certified cost engineers was borne! A new group of 22 course members is qualified to work in the broad field of cost engineering. They defied the modules of scheduling, estimating, cost control, project management and a case study. In the end, every course member wrote a paper, that proved that everyone is capable to combine theory and practise.
Course members did learn a lot from each other, as everyone has different experiences and a different background. Also this course, people from contractors, asset owners and consulting firms were represented. Course members were originating from infrastructure, (petro) chemical, constructing and engineering industries.
Everybody learned a lot of the presented subjects. Beside the cost engineering theory, also the essential soft skills were thought and practised by every individual. Presentation and report skills are also part of the training course, as the NAP special interest group Project Management mentioned:
"Theory and knowledge are of course the base of project controls, however, the right communication skills are conditional for succesful application."
The new cost engineers are certified for the next five years. If they follow courses and regularly go to "contact meetings" or play a role in the cost engineering community they will be re-certified. It is important to keep knowledge up to date in this fast moving world!
From 2017 on, DACE will offer the course in the English language. Content will be the samen, but the course will be shorter and more intensive, see the flyer on our website!
