Cost Engineering Process Industry

COST ENGINEERING PROCESS INDUSTRY

The Special Interest Group 'Cost Engineering Process Industry', SIG CEPI, is the leading Dutch Cost Engineering network for the process industry and is recognised as an authoritative knowledge centre for Cost Engineering within this sector. The process industry includes the following industries: (petro)chemicals, oil and gas, energy, steel, food and animal feed, and pharmaceuticals.

Within SIG CEPI, professionals from across the entire value chain come together. The SIG includes participants from engineering consultancies, contractors, installers, construction companies, maintenance companies, asset owners, consultancy firms and knowledge institutes.

CEPI

The SIG aims to provide the entire value chain within the process industry with guidelines for cost estimating and other project control methodologies. These guidelines enable partners throughout the process industry value chain to make the necessary decisions together, more quickly and effectively. The SIG plays a leading role in maintaining, renewing, expanding and supporting the field of Cost Engineering.

This also means actively seeking out new Cost Engineering methods in both familiar and unexplored areas and developing them where necessary. We achieve this by drawing on the knowledge and experience available within our network to support one another. To this end, we develop and maintain a network of experienced Cost Engineering professionals from all parts of the process industry value chain, as well as related knowledge centres and government bodies.

Activities

Through networking meetings (four times a year), an open culture of discussion is maintained, with knowledge sharing high on the agenda and opportunities for networking. New initiatives proposed by group members are allocated among participants. In addition to the networking meetings, members frequently collaborate to enhance the added value of this SIG as a highly qualified knowledge platform.

Examples of these initiatives include the DACE Price Booklet and DACE Labour Norms. The identification and subsequent investigation of new trends and opportunities within the profession are facilitated and promoted through contributions to seminars and (international) publications in professional journals, helping to further promote the field of Cost Engineering. Members' perspectives on developments in the profession, as well as their views on technical topics, are available through documents in the DACE Knowledge Base.

Knowledge is shared by CEPI trainers who deliver professional training programmes, such as the Certified Cost Engineer (CCE) programme, offered by DACE in collaboration with industry partners and various educational institutions, including Delft University of Technology. SIG CEPI members also contribute to the Essentials of Cost Engineering (ECE) and Essentials of Project Cost Control (EPCC).

Participation

Participation in SIG CEPI is open to all DACE participants, both corporate and individual. Non-DACE participants may join by invitation but are expected to become DACE participants, either through their company or individually. Every SIG participant contributes through active involvement in the activities mentioned above. Knowledge sharing is central to all members, and everyone is expected to contribute.
